Unemployment: the real Eurozone problem (Spain: more than 25%…)
from Merijn Knibbe
1. New Eurostat data on unemployment (which are based on a unified methodology and which therefore may differ from the national data). The graph I made every month is now produced by Thomson Reuters:
Some cherries:
1. The unemployment rate in the Eurozone did not increase but the number of unemployed is still increasing
2. The June rate has been increased with 0,1%-point
3. Which together means that the rate of increase is unabated (see also the numbers graph in the Eurostat press release)
4. Also, differences within the Eurozone are still increasing, though not anymore because Dutch, Austrian en German unemployment (low unemployment countries) is going down. Unemployment in Austria and the Netherlands is even increasing relatively fast.
5. The difference between the Eurozone and the rest of the EU is also increasing (Eurozone: up, non-Eurozone: down)
6. The only large decreases: the Baltic countries, but even these decreases are mainly due to developments in 2011 (see also Statistics Estonia)
Unemployment in Spain breached the 25% barrier
