Ceçi c ‘est une maison. Thoughts about the graduation show of the students of the Minerva academy of the arts, Groningen

A family connection (first degree) made me visit the graduation show of the Minerva academy of the arts in Groningen. Is there a better place to catch the ‘Zeitgeist’? And indeed – it was not about post-modern deconstruction and disconnection and anonimity. To the contrary. It was all about construction and connection. Just like crowd funding. Young people grappling with a fragmented high tech world, struggling to fit the pieces into meaningfull patterns. Just like crowd funding. Lots of cradle to cradle and organic materials. Live plants and animals. Lots of images of nature, connected with people and high tech.

You can see some examples here (lots of scrolling, very large site, comes in batches!).A few examples:

1) Inspired by Magritte but with the twist that it is the ‘site specific’ wall, which blends into the rest of the room:

2) High tech Diogenes? But the point – the artist actually lived on this location, in the work of ‘house’ (“maison” in french, the title of this blogpost of course connects to this).

3) Art for arts sake is not enough, again, it has to connect to live, literally (mind the matching colors):

4). Modern romanticism:

5) I like this kind of stuff
