Zundagoavend blues. Songs in the other North Sea dialects. Bennie Jolink

Long before cow punk became fashionable the band ‘Normaal’ started unashamed and cocksure to sing rock songs in the country side dialect of De Achterhoek, part of the eastern Netherlands. And showed that the guttural nature of this dialect, its short syllabes and its many declinations made it very fit for rock music with a taint of local and German ‘Volksmusik’. For decades everybody however wanted the lead singer of the band, Benny Jolink, with his coarse and emotional voice, to make an unplugged blues album. When he finally did the songs however did not resemble twentieth century blues but… medieval ballads.
