Do you want to get a Nobel prize? Eat chocolate and move to Chicago!

from Lars Syll

As we’ve noticed, again and again, correlation is not the same as causation …

If you want to get the prize in economics — and want to be on the sure side — yours truly would suggest you complement  your intake of chocolate with a move to Chicago.

Out of the 78 laureates that have been awarded “The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel,” 28 have been affiliated to The University of Chicago — that is 36%. The world is really a small place when it comes to economics …

I have a temporary address in a suburb of Chicago and I like chocolate but I have not even been on the short list as far as I know!

I think this will dovetail with a lot of your thinking Lars so please try this correlation on for size:

In every genuine paradigm change in human history, the primary/operant factor in that change is an aspect or aspects of the NATURAL philosophical concept of grace. So economically, unless this time is different, I say we go with that.

We might also consider that the paradigm of Debt Only as in inherent cost is the current dominant paradigm, and so the only way the economy is allowed to approximate (but never attain let alone maintain) flow is to continually create and inject Debt which again is an inherent and even at 0% interest an inevitable, additional and so accumulating cost.

It would be nice to get a real Nobel Prize — which usually signifies outstanding achievement. The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel is neither a real Nobel Prize nor indicative of any form of real achievement.

The earlier comments lead to an interesting suggestion. The Nobel family has apparently denounced this fake Nobel but without effect. If instead, they were to create a GENUINE Nobel in Economics, it MIGHT serve to COUNTER the fake Nobel, especially if they announced their intentions to fight fraud. If there were two Nobels in the picture, and the Nobel family supported one of them, the public should be able to see through the deception

Good suggestion Asad, but make sure the jury that makes selections is not centered on American educated economists.

“correlation is not the same as causation …” Absolutely but they are not mutually exclusive – we need more empirical evidence. I am willing at great personal sacrifice to volunteer to consume a vast amout of chocolate and then present my thoughts on economics, science and statistics to the Institute who I would not disclose my chocolate consumption to.
