I understand that 40% of deaths are over 85. Trump is following a policy of genocide, and I for one at 88 resent it. I published the same article in three places in my 87th year, a book in my 84th year, and several articles, and I know that people contribute to this blog in their 80s. So octogenarians don’t warrant government by genocide.

Very nice indeed! And Robert thanks for the papers, may you live long and prosper. The same to dear Grazia. Trump (his predecessor) and his “allies” are responsible for so many deaths around the globe that it is difficult to formulate rationally a model to reflect it all. Only a couple of days ago, was the anniversary of the unblessed, illegal and atrocious alliance by B&B of the invasion of Iraq almost two decades ago. No one knows how many millions of lives have been lost permanently, how many have been displaced, etc. And we hardly hear about the lingering tragedies that ensued from that. We are supposed to focus (as usual) on one issue, currently this pandemic. Camus’s the plague sums it up excellently.

Helen, there are currently 3 million people aged 80+ and this is projected to almost double by 2030 and finally reach 8 million by 2050. People treat the people 80+ as if they are of little importance to our society, in a creative sense. I don’t wish to be disposed of by the killers of old generations.precisely because I have learned and still learn so much from them about our destiny. Remember, the father of modern Historicalical studies,, Leopold von Ranke, set out to write a history of the world in his 80ties. I don’t feel like I can leave the investigation of the world in the hands of the anteoctogenerians.
