    It’s a tragic picture. There is a great ignorance (or unintelligence, stupidity) to the egoism lying behind these movements. More money to the lower fifths would so obviously fuel “the economy”, so the wealth of the upper percentiles is inherently short term. It seems that sustaining it long-term depends on a collective idea among the rich, that once the US really goes bad, wealth will just be pumped out of the US into other regions.
